Description
A rich, moist chocolate cake made with cocoa and topped with smooth buttercream frosting.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- 1½ tsp baking powder
- 1½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup oil
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup hot water or coffee
- Buttercream:
- 1½ cups butter
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- 6 cups powdered sugar
- 3–4 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and line pans.
- Whisk dry ingredients together.
- Add wet ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Stir in hot water or coffee.
- Divide batter into pans and bake 35 minutes.
- Cool layers on wire rack.
- Beat butter with cocoa and sugar to make frosting.
- Layer cakes and frost completely.
