Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup white sugar
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt into a bowl.
- Beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- Add the flour mixture in batches, alternating with the milk, mixing just until combined.
- Reserve ¾ cup of the batter and pour the remaining batter into the prepared pan.
- Mix the cocoa powder into the reserved batter until evenly combined.
- Drop spoonfuls of chocolate batter over the vanilla batter and gently swirl with a knife.
- Bake for 28 to 30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool briefly, then invert onto a wire rack and let cool completely before slicing.
