Ingredients

  • 3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients.
  2. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together; set aside.
  3. Cream butter and sugar together in a large bowl until smooth.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Stir in vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
  7. Wrap dough and chill for 2 hours.
  8. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease baking sheets.
  9. Roll dough to ¼-inch thickness on a floured surface.
  10. Cut into desired Christmas shapes using cookie cutters.
  11. Bake for 6–8 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  12. Cool on baking sheets briefly, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  13. Decorate as desired and serve.

Notes
